Shirel Altmann

Shirel Altmann, OTD, OTR/L is a pediatric Occupational Therapist dedicated to helping children build practical, meaningful skills that support independence and participation in everyday life. She earned her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Towson University and her Bachelor’s degree in Family Science from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is bilingual in Spanish and also holds a Graduate Certificate in Autism Studies from Towson University. During her doctoral training, she developed a caregiver education toolkit focused on supporting social-emotional development in young children.

Shirel has experience across outpatient pediatrics, inpatient rehabilitation, and school-based settings. She works with children with a range of needs, including ADHD, emotional and behavioral challenges, autism, and motor or neurological differences. Her clinical interests include sensory processing, executive functioning, emotional regulation, gross and fine motor development, and self-care skills.

Her approach is strengths-based and highly individualized, with an emphasis on strategies that are realistic and easy to carry over into daily routines. She works closely with caregivers to ensure therapy feels collaborative, supportive, and aligned with each family’s priorities, with a focus on building confidence and independence beyond the therapy session.

​

In her free time, Shirel enjoys traveling, exercising, and spending time with her husband, son, dog, and cat.
